The 45 clock hour Principles of Bartending/Mixology certificate granting program is designed for the beginner. At program completion the student will be a professional mixologist/bartender capable of working in any type of establishment that sells alcoholic beverages such as bars, restaurants, hotels, caterers, etc. in Maryland. At program completion the student will have a knowledge of, Mixology: the proper technique of making a drink; Beverage Control: the art of free pouring; Bar Management: efficient employee scheduling and requisitions; Inventory: measuring the amount of alcohol in a bottle; Cocktail Bar: setting up, stocking, and bar supplies; Bartender Responsibilities: stocking the bar and handling money; Cash Register: operating cash registers; State Laws: knowing state laws regarding alcohol, age verification, and common law; Customer Service: handling all types of patrons; Fruit Cutting: cutting fruit and preparing garnishes; Beer Lecture: pouring the prefect beer; Wine Lecture: handling and pouring wines; Frozen and Layered Drinks: making frozen drinks and serving layered drinks.
